Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, (1) the cause should be ascertained. (2) Unhealthful conditions should be changed, (3) wrong habits corrected. Then (4) nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and (5) to re-establish right conditions in the system. Natural Health Practitioners are teachers and educate their patients concerning the health laws of their being and how to apply them to their specific health challenge to regain optimal health. This is accomplished by analyzing what is taking place within the electro-biochemical structure of the human body. It reveals the intricate cause and effect of the physiological dysfunctional patterns, which always begin as a nutritional deficiency. If we understood anatomy and physiology we would appreciate natural healing and be willing to change our diet and lifestyle.
This is accomplished by detoxifying the body, then providing each cell of the body with the necessary nutrients to grow and develop. Once the body has been cleansed and detoxified, and each cell of the body has received all the necessary nutrients to regain health, then the next set of cells which are designed to replace the unhealthy cells will be stronger and healthier than the cells they replaced. Nature’s way of healing takes time but you regain optimal health without side effects.
The health principles that govern human anatomy and physiology are fixed and cannot be changed without experiencing a decline in health. Below are the eight doctors that make house calls everyday and we must incorporate them into our daily lifestyle and routine if we want to obtain, regain and/or maintain optimal health. The pace of life, societal, economic, personal and toxic relationships, poor nutrition, environmental pollution and stress tax the body's vital force supply. Like when the liver is no longer able to manufacture enzymes the body is no longer able to sustain life. The body's vital force, if it drops to low, will never come back up and weakness, sickness and death ensues. The eight doctors below are designed to protect and preserve the body's vital force. If we understood human anatomy and physiology as well as we do our computers, fashion, car engine, finances, etc... then we would understand that their importance to optimal health.

Health Law 1: Dr. Trust in Divine Power
In the medical literature, there are indications that those individuals who trust God live longer. (Kark JD, Shemi G, et al. Does religious observance promote health? Mortality in secular vs religious kibbutzim in Israel. Am J Public Health 1996 Mar; 86(3):341-346. Another fascinating study looked at the religious experience of those Americans who reached the golden age of 100. Among the centenarians, the researchers found that religiosity significantly enhanced physical health. (Levin JS, Vanderpool HY. religion. Soc Sci Med 1987;24(7):589-600). Is frequent religious attendance really conductive to better health? Towards an epidemiology of religion. Soc Sci Med 1987;24(7):589-600). Naturopaths do not teach/preach a specific religion or denomination but a way of life, which includes all that we are, all that we do, all our hope and aspirations, all the moments of our lives.
Health Law 2: Dr. Fresh Air - Include but not limited to deep breathing techniques, ozone therapy, hyperbaric chamber, etc…High quality fresh air is actually electrified. The life-giving oxygen molecules is negatively charged or “negatively ionized”. In studies of children, negative ions have demonstrated salutary effects. In one study, normal children and those with learning disabilities showed measurable results in brain function. Morton LL, Kershner JR. Differential negative air ion effects on learning disabled and normal- achieving children. Int J Biometeorol 1990 May; 34(1):35-41.
Health Law 3: Dr. Water - Used both internally and externally, e.g. colonics, enemas, sitz bath, fomentations, etc…If a person is not drinking enough water, hematocrit rises, thus increasing risk of heart attacks and strokes. Also, a lack of water causes dehydration of red blood cells, making them less flexible, and they have a greater tendency to clot. Stuart J, Kenny MW. Blood Rheology. J Clin Pathol 1980 May; 33(5):417-429.
Health Law 4: Dr. Exercise - Naturopaths screen patients to determine the proper exercise for their specific health challenge(s). As physical activity increases from less than 500 calories expended per week in exercise, mortality rates decrease. Paffenbarger RS Jr, Hyde RT, et al. The association of changes in physical-activity level and other lifestyle characteristic with mortality among men. N Engl J Med 1993 Feb 25; 328(8):538-545.
Health Law 5: Dr. Nutrition - “Let foods be your medicine, and medicine your foods” –-Hippocrates.
Naturopaths hold at least a Bachelor of Science, if not a Masters Degree in Nutrition. We counsel on diet and recommend, vitamins including B17, minerals, antioxidants, trace minerals, phytochemicals, enzymes, probiotics and food as medicine, etc…, which include herbs, internally and externally including the root, bark, stem, and flower. In the form of extracts, tinctures, capsules, poultice, etc... Dr. Synove Knutsen found that among both men and women, there were approximately 15% less chronic diseases among vegetarians when compared with non-vegetarians. Knutsen SF. Lifestyle and the use of health services. Am J Clin Nutr 1994 May; 59(5 Suppl):1171S-1175s

Health Law 6: Dr. Temperance -Naturopaths teach the importance of self control in every aspect of their and their patient’s lives, which goes back to “a way of life”. In order to restore health or preserve it, an individual must abstain entirely from that which is injurious to the body and to use judiciously only healthful and nutritious articles of food or drink. The World Health Organization has taken the position and now advocates “no alcohol” as the standard. Embald H. Moderate drinking: serious warning by WHO specialist. World Health Organization Press Release, Nov. 1, 1994.
Health Law 7: Dr. Rest - Naturopaths teach the importance of rest and its relationship to health. We teach how the body’s natural daily clock, called the circadian rhythm, and its natural weekly clock called circaseptan rhythm relate to health and/or sickness. Rest is one of the behavioral factors in longevity. In America, 3.3 million people visit their doctor for insomnia alone. Radecki SE, Brunton SA. Management of insomnia in office-based practice. National prevalence and therapeutic patterns. Arch Fam Med 1993 Nov;2(11):1129-1134. PET scans demonstrate decreased blood flow to the frontal lobe of the brain in chronically sleep-deprived individuals. Ebert D, Feistel H, Barocka A. Effects of sleep deprivation on the limbic system and the frontal lobe in affective disorders: a study with Tc-99m-HMPAO SPECT Psychiatry Res 1991 Dec;40(4):247-251.
Health Law 8: Dr. Sunshine - Light therapy is used by Naturopaths, which includes but are not limited to, infra-red light therapy, low level laser therapy, sunbaths, etc…Sunlight is able to convert cholesterol into vitamin D, an essential factor in maintaining good bone health. Salamone LM, DallalnGE, et al. Contributions of vitamin D intake and seasonal sunlight exposure to plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration in elderly women. Am J Clin Nutr 1994 Jan; 59(1):80-86.
Health Law 9: Dr. Lifestyle - Wellness is a journey, a state of being, not a destination. A State of wellness may be achieved when a variety of factors are incorporated into a person’s lifestyle. These factors are listed above. A study identified seven behavioral risk factors, thought to be associated with good health. The seven specific health habits included abstaining from tobacco, not snacking between meals, having adequate sleep (7 to 8 hours a night), regular physical activity, maintaining a reasonable body weight, eating breakfast regularly, and limiting the intake of alcohol. Nutrition & Lifestyle – the 21 Century model for Healthcare
In 1988 the U.S. Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop issued a comprehensive 712-page report on nutrition and health. Parts of his findings were that eight of the top ten killers in the United States were diet and lifestyle related; Heart Disease, Cancer, Lung Disease, Pneumonia and influenza, Strokes, Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. He also concluded that “it is now clear that diet contributes in substantial ways to the development of these diseases and that modification of diet can contribute to their prevention and control.”

He also concluded that “it is now clear that diet contributes in substantial ways to the development of these diseases and that modification of diet can contribute to their prevention and control.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) commissioned a panel of nutrition experts from around the world. The results, a 200-page technical paper entitled, “Diet, Nutrition and the Prevention of Chronic diseases,” was published in 1990. In addition, an executive summary was published in 1991. They concluded: Medical and scientific research has established clear links between dietary factors and the risk of developing coronary artery disease, hypertension stroke, several cancers, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic diseases. Since the above two reports where released, much ground breaking research has been conducted and written about. Especially concerning heart disease, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D. have published their findings.
In the December 16, 1998 edition of JAMA, the title of the article reads, “Intensive Lifestyle Changes for Reversal of Coronary Heart Disease.”
The results-More regression of coronary atherosclerosis occurred after five years than after one in the experimental group (lifestyle changes). In contrast, in the control group (usual care-lipid-lowering drugs), coronary atherosclerosis continued to progress and more than twice as many cardiac events occurred.

Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D., was a researcher and clinician at the Cleveland Clinic for more than 35 years, where he was a member of the board of governors and president of the staff. In 1991, Dr. Esselstyn served as the president of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and organized the 1st National Conference on the Elimination and Prevention of Heart Disease. In 2005, he became the 1st recipient of the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine. Dr. Esselstyn is also an Olympic gold medalist in rowing, and he was awarded the Bronze Star as an army surgeon in Vietnam.
"My own feeling is that if you were to summarize where we stand on this epidemic, we have a great many brilliant minds that are focused on mechanisms, drugs, and procedures, and we've have sort of abandoned the capacity of the public to take care of this epidemic on their own. I would like to say right now that perhaps there can be no greater condemnation of 21st Century medicine then its refusal to share with the public the causation and cure of its most frightening chronic illnesses.

How in the world can we have someone who's had two or three heart attacks and a couple of bypasses, and not say to them --- look them in the eye and say "Look. I'm tired of doing these bypasses for you. Why don't you cure yourself? I mean, it's not that these people can't do it; it's just that they don't have the information available. It's extremely difficult to in any way applaud what medicine is doing in this arena because the public just isn't being told what they can do to cure themselves." - Dr. Esselstyn
T. Colin Campbell, Biochemist
T. Colin Campbell is an American biochemist who specializes in the effect of nutrition on long-term health. He is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University. Campbell has become known for his advocacy of a low-fat, whole foods, plant-based diet. He is the author of over 300 research papers and three books, The China Study (2005, co-authored with his son, Thomas M. Campbell II), which became one of America's best-selling books about nutrition), Whole (2013) and The Low-Carb Fraud (2014). Campbell was featured in the 2011 American documentary Forks Over Knives. Campbell was one of the lead scientists of the China–Oxford–Cornell study on diet and disease, set up in 1983 by Cornell University, the University of Oxford, and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine to explore the relationship between nutrition and cancer, heart, and metabolic diseases. The study was described by The New York Times as "the Grand Prix of epidemiology.”The link between lifestyle, diet and disease is clear and scientifically based. What is even more exciting is to have scientifically demonstrated that the human body has the ability to heal itself with time, the right nutrients and following nature’s laws of health.

In a JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), June 19, 2002; 287(23):3116-26, article entitled “Vitamins for Chronic Disease Prevention in Adults” Dr. Robert H. Fletcher M.D. and Kathleen M. Fairfield, M.D., Ph. D. of the Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health states: “most people do not get an optimal amount of nutrients by diet alone. Suboptimal intake of nutrients are associated with increased risk of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. Their finding definitively confirm that all diseases find their roots in nutritive poor and specifically poor mineral nutrition. This lack of minerals in the body manifest itself as symptoms (dis-ease stage), then if not corrected eventually diseases. Some groups of patients are at higher risk for vitamin deficiency and suboptimal vitamin status. Many physicians may be unaware of common food sources of vitamins or unsure which vitamins they should recommend for their patients.
“Every element, every sickness, and every disease can be traced back to an organic trace mineral deficiency” (categorical statement).

With the wealth of scientific information available today we know for a fact three things:
1. Nutrition is the foundation of health,
2. Nutritional deficiency(s) is the number one cause of why people get sick, and
3. Pathogens are the secondary cause of disease after a nutritional, specifically a organic mineral deficiency in the body.

A Lesson from the U.S. Food Processing Industry
Modern food processing started in the U.S. in the 1940’s, to extend the shelf life of foods products. By removing the brand and germ of wheat, flour can be made into bread that won’t spoil as quickly. This process, however, removes 22 vitamins and other nutrients. Soon scientist discovered that this processed flour was causing B1, B2, B3 and iron deficiencies in the American population. Therefore, Congress passed the Enrichment Act of 1948 that forced food processors to add these four nutrients back into the flour they “refined.”
Today’s fast, processed and refined foods still rob the body of necessary nutrients. Many of the diseases we suffer from today is the result of bad food choices. Naturopathic care can help to identify the nutritional deficiencies in the human body and restore balance or homeostasis.

The following information was presented to the U.S. 74 Congress, in U.S. Senate Document #264, in 1936. The alarming fact is that food, fruits, nuts and grains now being raised on millions of acres in America and other countries no longer contain certain needed minerals and are starving us no matter how much we eat. In other words, we have been consuming food unable to provide the nutritional needs of our bodies for over seven decades. Based upon U.S. Senate document #264, the nutritional industry knew: 1. that nutritionally deficient food was coming to us from the farm lands. 2. They realized that processing was further robbing us of any trace minerals that could be found; and 3. They knew we were cooking any remaining nutrients right out of our food. Therefore, unless you are growing your own food by yearly replacing the micro nutrients, enzymes, minerals back into the soil, you are eating nutritionally deficient food. This also includes organically grown foods. The most alarming fact not readily known, shared or understood by the majority of people, is the human body cannot make minerals. We are completely dependent on outside sources for our mineral nutrition. From the day we are born, our mineral stores begin to deplete and if we are not replenishing them with what we put into our bodies, in the correct form and design, with good digestion, significant health challenges result.
The presence of nutrients in plants has been known for centuries. As simple as it sounds, minerals are rocks. The natural process is for minerals and other nutriments to be absorbed from the soil by plants. Humans then consume the plant, after the plant has changed the metallic compound into a design that is useable by the human body. By God’s ingénious design, through nature we receive our mineral nutrition. The key is digestion, mineral absorption may be affected for the better or worse by a variety of factors such as a person's age, physical condition, overall state of health, and the condition of their digestive system. Minerals not absorbed into the cells can be absorbed into the blood stream. These minerals too large to enter into the cell float around in the blood until they are deposited into the soft tissue. Many time encouraging toxic conditions creating debilitating health challenges. The most toxic foods are those grown on calcium deficient soil and passed off, to the unsuspecting public, as fresh healthy food.
“Our physical well-being is more directly dependent upon minerals we take into our system than upon calories or vitamins, or upon precise proportions of starch, protein or carbohydrates we consume”
“We know that vitamins are complex chemical substances which are indispensable to nutrition, and yet each of them is important for normal function of some special structure in the body. Disorder and disease result from any vitamin deficiency. It is not commonly realized, however, that vitamins control the body’s appropriation of minerals, and in the absence of minerals they have no function to perform. Lacking vitamins, the system can make some use of minerals, but lacking minerals, vitamins are useless.”
“This discovery is one of the latest and most important contributions of science to the problem of human health.” –U.S. Senate document #264, presented during the 74 Congress of the U.S.

Why are governments ignoring this profound truth? Is it because they are in bed with Big Pharma? All governments need money and Big Pharma has mega trillions of dollars, in fact venture capitalism is the largest segment on Wall Street (the Stock Exchanges). While in the United States, health care is the third largest sector of the U.S. economy. The money is not in the healthy, nor is it in the dead. The money is in the middle, the ones they can keep sick and depending on there pharmaceutical drugs for the rest of their life, or so they have been told.
Do Children need Natural-10 D care?
Since the nutritional value of the food supply has declined significantly since the 1900’s and the majority of food is shipped into the Cayman Islands, which means that they are picked before they are ripe (nutritionally mature). The moment a fruit or vegetable is picked, it continues to grow and ripen but it no longer receives nutritional value from the soil through its roots. So our children are eating more because they are not nutritionally satisfied leading to obesity, Type II Diabetes and other diseases. Childhood diseases can be addressed and prevented through Naturopathy. Combine these facts with Caymanians eating fast, processed and refined foods, and refined sugar, the answer is a resounding YES, children need Natural health care.

Is Natural Health Care for Everyone?
Natural health care is for everyone who is willing to take responsibility for their health. Naturopathic care requires a commitment on the part of the patient. An individual must be willing to change their diet, if required. The patient must be committed to follow all of nature’s laws of health and do all the necessary natural treatments to regain optimal health. Most importantly, since rebuilding a new you requires time, a patient must be patient and allow nature to do her renewing process slowly. You did not get sick in a day, and it is going to take more than a day to restore optimal health. However, with your commitment, dedication, cooperation, and participation, you are on your way to achieving optimal health.
